The EASVO Young Network meeting held on November 28, 2025, highlighted the discussions around the amendments to the transport regulation and the growing threat of invasive species across the continent.

Key discussion points:

  • Animal Transport Regulation Concerns:. While amendments to the TRACES system will require its use for long-distance journeys (over 9 hours) and mandate a real mobile app, concerns were raised with TRACES destination validation, as non-credible or unvalidated third-country establishments can be used as final destinations.
  • Cats and Dogs Regulation: The group noted the impressive agreement between the Council and Parliament on the identification and registration of all cats and dogs. Discussions also covered aligning the new regulation with the 2013 Pet Movement regulation, specifically to clarify that microchipping procedures should be performed by a veterinarian or under their direct supervision.
  • Climate Change Initiative: A proposal for a questionnaire on the impact of climate change on animals and veterinary work was discussed.
  • Invasive Asian Hornet Spread: The dramatic and rapid spread of the Asian hornet across Europe was a major focus. Reports noted thousands of cases in Portugal annually, while Belgian authorities have already given a “too late” response. Members stressed the urgent need for coordinated European action to manage the crisis, viewing the difficult situations in Portugal and Spain as a warning for other EU countries.

The Young Network will hold its next meeting on January 9th, 2026.
