On September 20, the European Coordination Committee for Veterinary Training (ECCVT) gathered at the Veterinary University in Vienna for a pivotal meeting. Leaders from EAEVE, EBVS, IVSA, and FVE came together to explore innovative ways to enhance both undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary education. The discussion focused on making veterinary training future-ready by embedding soft skills, integrating cutting-edge technologies, and ensuring graduates are well-equipped for tomorrow’s challenges.

The need for an economic study of the veterinary market was also highlighted, aiming to better understand and address the rapidly evolving landscape of the profession. In a key update, the guest speaker from the European Commission, discussed the ongoing revision of the professional recognition directive for veterinary professionals, suggesting updates based on the 2022 SPARK report to reflect the latest scientific and technical advancements.

The next major step is a public consultation, launched on 23 September and run for four weeks. The ECCVT is already preparing a unified response, ensuring the veterinary community’s voice is heard.
