Jean-Pierre Orand joined on behalf of EASVO the FVE/UEVP Medicines Working Group (MWG) meeting held in Brussels and online on 13 October to discuss current priorities in veterinary medicines and antimicrobial use.

Members focused on Article 106.1 of the Veterinary Medicines Regulation, underlining the need for veterinarians to retain clinical freedom when prescribing, particularly where the summary of product characteristics (SPC) are outdated. The group agreed to update the FVE statement on SPCs and continue collecting national examples and evidence.

The VetMed+ coalition presented progress on its sheep and goat subgroup (SRUMI), identifying shortages, lack of availability, therapeutic gaps and data needs. The full results of the group are expected in S1 2026.

Representatives from the European Medicines Agency joined the meeting to discuss stronger collaboration on Pharmacovigilance (PhV). It was agreed to hold a PhV focus group and regular FVE news updates to raise awareness.

Members also discussed the European Commission’s study on traditional herbal veterinary medicines and the COST Action MedPlants4Vet, exploring how traditional remedies could fit into future regulatory frameworks. The MWG contributed to several EMA consultations on simplification and environmental risk assessment. The next MWG meeting will be held in Q1 2026.
