On April 9, 2025, EASVO Treasurer Cornelai Rossi-Broy joined the 22nd Informal German-speaking Brussels Veterinary Expert Meeting, organised by the Dairy Industry Association (MIV) and the Bavarian Representation to the EU, in cooperation with MEP Christine Singer at the Bavarian Representation in Brussels. This well-established platform brought together professionals from politics, science, and industry to discuss key veterinary and animal health issues at the EU level. Alngside FVE President Siegfried Moder, EASVO Treasurer Conny Rossi-Broy and FVE Policy Officer Wiebke Jansen contributed to the key Discussions around FMD and latest developments and lessons for the future. Founding-member of the expert meeting Prof. Dr. Dr. Markus Schick (BMEL) provided insights from the German FMD Response on the first-ever established containment zone and regaining FMD-free status after the suspension in January 2025. Dr. Moritz Klemm (European Commission) provided insights into the ongoing FMD outbreaks in Hungary and Slovakia, as well as the HPAI risks for cattle in Europe, including the potential repercussion from the cases in dairy cattle in the U.S. and the EFSA investigation into pasteurised milk transmission. The event concluded with a lively open discussion and a traditional Bavarian Weisswurst lunch, offering participants an opportunity to network informally.
