EASVO representative Ulrike Winter joined the FVE VPH&S Working Group on April 7th and 8th for its in-person meeting, hosted in Cambridge, UK, by Milorad Radakovic. Under the excellent coordination of the chair, Ole Alvseike, members explored the progress of their SMART Actions: veterinary roles in sustainable terrestrial livestock and aquaculture, food and feed security, and addressing recruitment, retention, and return (RRR) challenges in the profession. To expand on the previous work on pandemic preparedness, guest speakers Lucy Easthope, David Edwards and Sinthu Devkumar were welcomed to a session on disaster preparedness, including natural and health-related disaster planning and recovery. This session offered valuable insights on the current situation and how the veterinary profession can be better involved and recognised. Local students from student associations at Cambridge University were also invited to attend the meeting and offer a youth perspective. Collaboration and consultations with the joint FVE/FECAVA/IVSA Mental Wellbeing and DEI and the FVE/UEVP Medicines Working Group will guide next steps.
