From September 30th to October 4th, 2024, EASVO Past-President Jane Clark, now FVE Vice President, had the privilege of joining the WOAH Regional Commission Conference in the historic city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, represented our organisation, contributing to vital discussions on advancing global animal health, sustainability, and the essential role of veterinary services within the One Health framework.
She also presented the FVE poster (see picture), showcasing the implementation of Animal Health Visits across Europe with WOAH and EU Commission officials, CVOs and FESASS representatives.
A highlight of the conference was on working collaboratively to deliver One Health outcomes and enhance pandemic preparedness and included a High-level One Health Panel with ministers and representatives from global organizations including FAO, UNEP, WHO, and WOAH. The sessions emphasized the critical role of veterinary services in the One Health approach, as well as the transformative impact of digitalisation, data management, and artificial intelligence on veterinary services.
Jane also participated in a special session on HPAI, and held a productive meeting with Dr. Norkobilov Bakhrom, Chair of the State Committee of Veterinary and Livestock Development of Uzbekistan, exploring potential collaboration and joint initiatives for the future.
Additional sessions delved into key topics such as the PVS Information System, disaster management, and challenges related to zoning and compartmentalisation. Lively discussions also took place on WOAH’s Wildlife Strategy, the New Standards Navigation Tool, and regional feedback and recommendations.
