Under the EU Farm to Fork Strategy, the European Commission has committed to revise several pieces of EU animal welfare legislation by 2023, to ensure a higher level of animal welfare by aligning the current rules with the latest scientific evidence, broadening their scope and making them easier to enforce, as well as to contribute to the achievement of a more sustainable food system.
FVE and its members, including EASVO, seek leadership in the revision of animal welfare legislation through active participation in Stakeholder consultations, workshops and the EU Animal Welfare Platform. EASVO fully supports the selected 10 key recommendations from the position papers to improve the animal welfare legislation to align it with the latest scientific evidence, broaden its scope, facilitate enforcement as well as coherence with related policies.
