EASVOs Young Network met on February 27 to discuss significant challenges across the state veterinary and animal health sectors:

Traceability Concerns: Discussions focused on the complexities of horse traceability, specifically citing inconsistencies in documentation and movement for horses. Participants highlighted the need for clearer communication regarding the new EU non-commercial pet movement rules, effective April 29th, particularly the change limiting movement to five animals per person. The new detailed rules on animal health requirements are for pets that are moved for non-commercial reasons with their owners from one EU country to another EU country, and from a non-EU country to an EU country.

Animal Disease Management: Updates covered the upcoming vaccination roll-out in Italy for Avian Influenza (AI) following recent outbreaks, underscoring the industry’s commitment to disease control. There was a discussion on the ongoing challenges of monitoring rabies following the recent imported case in Germany and other animal diseases.

The next meeting will be on March 27th.
