During the EASVO Young Network meeting on 10 January 2025, participants discussed Germany’s recent outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) in Brandenburg—the first in nearly 40 years. Strict control measures are underway, and veterinarians were reminded to update export certificates and remain vigilant for FMD symptoms.
The group also revisited the topic of veterinary workforce shortages, including a survey by French student Eloise Lorrain. Discussions focused on whether official veterinarians should support rural clinical work and how student internships prepare them for state roles.
Insights across countries revealed differences in internship timing and state medicine exposure, with data showing most traineeships occur in the later years of study.
The next meeting is scheduled for 7 February 2025.
