The EASVO Young Network met on January 9th, 2026 to discuss and finalise its contribution to the Standing Committee of Agricultural Research (SCAR) survey on climate change and veterinary work. Participants highlighted the increasing prevalence of vector-borne diseases due to warmer temperatures, aquaculture health, welfare implications of extreme weather events on animal transport, and the invasion of Asian hornets as an environmental threat to honeybees and other pollinators. A major priority identified was the need for innovation in surveillance and early warning systems, including the use of artificial intelligence to forecast climate-driven disease outbreaks.

The network briefly discussed a Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) detection in Northern Cyprus and also addressed an EFSA call for evidence regarding increasing the current for head-only electrical stunning for heavy pigs.

The next meeting was scheduled for Friday, February 13th 2026.
