Registrations are now open for the ECDC Lighthouse live webinar: “Preventing an Avian Influenza pandemic: Why farmers matter more than ever” on Tuesday, 3 February 2026 13.00-14.00 CET.

Avian influenza (AI) poses not only health risks but also social and behavioural challenges among people involved in poultry farming. Farmers’ decisions, routines, and responses to regulations affect the spread and control of AI. This webinar will examine how knowledge, risk perception, and social norms influence preventive behaviours in farms, including biosecurity practices and acceptance of human vaccination among at-risk workers. Case studies, such as Finland’s proactive vaccination program, will illustrate practical applications of social and behavioural strategies in avian flu prevention and control.

Speakers include Ana Victoria Pascual Linaza, Veterinary Epidemiologist currently serving as External Auditor at EU Health and Food Safety, leading audits and One Health missions on avian influenza, Vuokko Harma, Senior Researcher at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), working at the Cultural, Behavioural and Media Insights Centre (CUBE), focusing on citizens’ risk perceptions, trust, equity, and well-being, aiming to understand how these dynamics shape health outcomes.
