| The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Commission have launched the #NoBirdFlu toolkit, designed to help farmers and others working with poultry protect animals and people from avian influenza. Timed with the start of the migratory bird season, the initiative emphasises simple but vital biosecurity practices, particularly for small and medium-sized farms.
The toolkit includes practical, multilingual resources: infographics with hygiene and movement-control guidance, posters for farm premises, and ready-to-use social media content to spread awareness.
These tools aim to support farmers in preventing outbreaks, safeguarding both animal and public health, and ensuring stability in food production and trade.
The urgency is clear. Avian influenza outbreaks can devastate poultry populations, disrupt supply chains, and impact farmers’ livelihoods. With cases typically rising in the winter months, proactive measures are essential. Every individual entering a farm environment has a role in keeping poultry safe.
Looking ahead, EFSA will also assess how farmers, veterinarians, and farm workers perceive the risks of avian influenza, helping to shape a broader EU initiative on preparedness in 2026. By sharing and promoting these resources, stakeholders can play a key role in reducing the spread of avian influenza across Europe.
