| Animal disease outbreaks across the EU carry profound, underestimated burdens that extend far beyond initial production losses. From devastating animal suffering and mass culling to market instability and lasting psychological trauma on veterinarians and farmers, the current reactive crisis model is no longer enough.
To address these challenges, FVE and Animal Advocacy & Food Transition (AAFT) are co-organising a high-level hybrid lunchtime event at the European Parliament on 1 July 2026 (13:00 – 15:00 CEST). Co-hosted by MEP Tilly Metz (Greens) and MEP Paulo do Nascimento Cabral (EPP), the discussion will explore how shifting EU policymaking toward prevention and preparedness, rooted in One Health and One Welfare principles, serves as a high-value investment for the future. The program features keynote data from the Global Burden of Animal Diseases (GBADs), real-world veterinary stories from the field, and insights on future policy actions from European Commission DG SANTE and key stakeholders.
