Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) has been detected for the first time in Italy and France, marking a significant development in the epidemiology of this vector-borne cattle disease in Europe. Italy reported its first outbreak in Sardinia on 21 June 2025, with 36 confirmed outbreaks to date and one linked case in Lombardy. France confirmed its first outbreak on 30 June in the Savoy region and has since reported a total of 39 infected locations, with the Haute-Savoie region also affected. Both countries have implemented EU-mandated protection (20 km) and surveillance (50 km) zones, movement restrictions, and targeted culling, with vaccination campaigns launched in the affected areas.
As we continue our animal health series, we are thrilled to announce our next event. FVE will host a webinar on Lumpy Skin Disease in Europe: containment of the recent outbreaks in Italy and France, which will focus on the response strategies that contained the recent European outbreaks of this disease.

FVE Vice and EASVO Past President Jane Clark will moderate the webinar. Our expert speakers, Gaia Muroni (IZS Sardegna) and Nicolas Berthollet (Agrovet Sciences), will share key insights and lessons from Sardinia and France and answer any questions you may have!
