After veterinarian Nicolaus Kriz assumed the role of EFSA Executive Director in September 2025, he spoke this week at an exchange of views with the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) to provide updates on EFSA’s current priorities and ongoing work regarding the food and agricultural sectors, including the feed and food safety omnibus simplification and innovative feed additives such as phages. MEPs highlighted especially the stakes for border inspection challenges, animal health, including vector-borne diseases, and concerns about increasing bovine tuberculosis across the EU as well as animal welfare such as live animal transport.
