Today, following an endorsement by the Member States, the European Commission has adopted a Decision establishing an EU Expert Pool on Import Controls, bringing together national experts responsible for official controls on animals and goods entering the Union. Anchored in the Vision for Agriculture and Food, this initiative reinforces trust in the agri-food chain and upholds high EU standards. It also builds on the measures announced by the European Commission and complements the work of the Task Force on Import Controls. Through this Experts Pool, national officials, appointed by the governments, will perform staff exchanges and joint visits to major EU border control posts, creating a strong operational network to share expertise, identify common challenges, and spread best practices. In a context of growing and complex trade flows, this marks a concrete step towards more consistent, efficient and coordinated import controls, benefiting consumers, farmers and businesses alike.
