On 29th May 2026, FVE hosted the EASVO-FVE-BVA-AGV relationship fireside on their relationship and its relevance for members. Almost 40 attendees were present.

We were pleased to be joined by Jane Clark (FVE Vice President), Mark McCarthy (EASVO President), Liz Mullineaux (BVA Senior Vice President), Anthony Ridge (President of AGV) and Claire White (Vice President of AGV)
The purpose of the webinar was to learn about:
- The structure of FVE, and EASVO
- The value of AGV membership and why maintaining EASVO membership matters
- Opportunities through the EASVO Young Vet Network
- Consultation opportunities & member representation
- BVA and RCVS are FVE members representing the UK. The FVE represents 38 European countries and more than 330,000 veterinarians
- EASVO is one of the four FVE sections which represent vital components of the veterinary profession. EASVO represents veterinarians working for national governments all over Europe.
- EASVO has carried out workforce surveys, for example investigating undergraduate OV training
- Current focus items for EASVO include: violence and intimidation against state veterinarians; emergency slaughter revision consultation; illegal pet trade across Europe
- EASVO Young Vet Network is open to AGV members and free to join, to exchange information and experiences and inform EASVO on what is important for the next generation of state veterinarians as source of professional and personal support.
- UKECG (UK European Coordination Group) is made up ok the UK representatives to FVE (BVA, RCVS and other representatives for example through BVA specialist divisions)
- UKECG meet before the FVE General Assembly to share work going on in their various groups and agree on the stance of the UK for issues which will be discussed during the FVE GA
- AGV collaborates with European partners in FVE and EASVO to address transboundary animal diseases and antimicrobial resistance
- AGV facilitates sharing of technical knowledge and best practices of official veterinarians across Europe
- AGV contributes to discussions on workforce sustainability and evolving roles of OVs in Europe
- AGV European collaboration provides mutual benefit through sharing of information and perspective in both directions. This helps inform evidence-based policy and strategy alignment
- AGV members actively participate in EASVO
