On 8 July, the Commission will host a high level conference to mark 10 years since the Animal Health Law entered into force across the EU. The event will be opened with a keynote speech by Olivér Várhelyi, EU Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, and speakers will include policymakers, FVE, veterinary authorities, scientists, experts from international organisations, EU institutions, and other stakeholders.
The conference will present the main findings and conclusions of the Commission evaluation of the Animal Health Law (Regulation (EU) 2016/429 on transmissible animal diseases), based on the supporting study. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss different experiences with its implementation, achievements of the new framework, and future challenges. The event will also be an opportunity to look at future action needed in the context of increasing pressure on animal health and greater preparedness needs.
Registration for onsite participation at the conference will close on 3 July.
