The FVE has published a report on the challenges faced in delivering veterinary services in rural and remote areas – this is of particular interest to EASVO.

The FVE received data and information from 28 countries and explanations for the lack of veterinary professionals in rural and remote areas included:

  • unfavourable working conditions;
  • difficulties achieving a good work/life balance;
  • the ability of some farmers to afford veterinary services.

These challenges and impacts affect veterinarians, animals and farmers and have consequences for the wider economic development of rural areas.

Some examples of countries addressing the challenges with different strategies were also provided. You can download the report here.
