EASVO convened for its General Assembly on 28 November 2024 in a hybrid format from Brussels and online.
Ongoing updates to the EASVO website were discussed, and members were encouraged to contribute ideas to enhance its value and visibility. The meeting also addressed pandemic preparedness, adopting the FVE position paper while emphasizing the critical role of Official Veterinarians in communication strategies.
During a roundtable on animal disease surveillance, member states shared updates on the management of issues such as Bluetongue Virus (BTV), African Swine Fever (ASF), and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). These discussions highlighted vaccination campaigns, biosecurity measures, and the challenges associated with disease control in different contexts.
The Young EASVO Network presented its initiatives, focusing on training, education, and professional opportunities for young veterinarians. Participants emphasized the need to improve the perception of Official Veterinarians by developing role models, mentorship programs, and internships.
The next General Assembly was confirmed for 26 June 2025 in Leuven, Belgium. The meeting concluded with discussions on enhancing synergies between sections. The General Assembly demonstrated EASVO’s proactive approach to addressing challenges and supporting its members effectively, setting a clear direction for the future.
