| The EU’s TRACES platform marked its 20th anniversary in 2024, processing over 5.4 million official documents and certificates – an 8.5% increase from 2023. The multilingual certification system, managed by DG SANTE, now serves almost 100,000 users across more than 90 countries worldwide.
In the live animal sector, border authorities issued 79,657 CHED-As for animal imports, with horses, dogs and cats representing the majority of consignments. However, challenges remain: 368 consignments of live animals were rejected at EU borders, primarily due to documentary and certification issues. Missing certificates, wrong certificate models, and absence of original certificates were the leading causes of refusal. Health concerns, including diseased or suspected animals, also contributed to rejections.
On the export side, in 2024, 26 Member States and three countries with special agreements with the EU used the EU EXPORT module in TRACES to issue 336 550 export certificates – a remarkable 380% increase from 2023, largely driven by new certificate templates for exports to Great Britain. Main products exported: meat, milk, fishery products, horses, dogs and cats. |
